MAURITIUS, 19 April 2026
A 9.5-kilometre trail from Petrin to Black River Gorges brought together practitioners aged 7 to 61 in a testament to discipline, resilience, and community.
MAURITIUS, 19 April 2026 — KyokushinRyu Bois Pignolet Dojo successfully hosted its annual "Hike for Health" event on Sunday, 19 April 2026, drawing 77 participants from across the island. The initiative, rooted in the core values of Kyokushin karate, served as a powerful celebration of physical fitness, mental discipline, and communal solidarity.
The event welcomed participants ranging from 7 to 61 years of age, reflecting the inclusive ethos that defines the KyokushinRyu community. Setting off at 10:30 a.m. from Petrin, the groups navigated a demanding 9.5-kilometre trail through the renowned Black River Gorges, concluding at approximately 3:00 p.m. A shared lunch and refreshments in a warm, relaxed atmosphere brought the day to a fitting close.
Throughout the journey, senior practitioners demonstrated exemplary leadership by supporting and guiding younger participants, embodying the spirit of mentorship that lies at the heart of the martial art.
Participants were organised into three groups, each led by senior instructors, with overall coordination ensured by Sempai Sudoollah. Sensei Ramchurn and Sempai Nalini maintained formation to ensure no participant was left behind, while a dedicated safety team comprising first aiders — Sempai Nalini (Dojo Les Mariannes) and Faranaz (Dojo Valley Pitot) — accompanied the groups throughout.
• Group A — Led by Shihan Devanand Seebrun (5th Dan), Sensei Abhisheik Seebrun (4th Dan), and Sempai Krishna Sookun: 25 participants from Dojo Goodlands.
• Group B — Led by Sempai Shakun Anis, Sensei Neguib Dhoomun, and Sempai Mujahid Emambocus: 32 participants representing Dojo Fond du Sac, Dojo Valley Pitot, Dojo Pailles, Dojo Long Mountain, and Dojo Piton.

KyokushinRyu Mauritius operates under the distinguished leadership of Branch Chief Shihan Rabindranath Seebrun (5th Dan) and Technical Director Shihan Rajesh Dooboree (5th Dan). The organisation is characterised by a collaborative structure in which black belt practitioners establish and lead dojos across the island, ensuring broad accessibility and consistent training standards nationwide.
Monthly black belt training sessions are conducted to maintain uniformity in techniques and kata. The organisation further benefits from regular visits and grading sessions by Shihan Philip Moustache (Continental Director for Africa) and Shihan Verghese from Seychelles, who provide advanced technical guidance and ensure alignment with evolving international standards.
Kancho Peter Chong (chairman of the International Karate Alliance KyokushinRyu (IKAK) and a 9th dan in Kyokushin karate) and Shihan Steven Foo have previously visited the country to provide training and guidance to the Mauritian students.
The "Hike for Health" event follows a previous successful community initiative held on 25 November 2025, when 91 participants took part in a Beach Training session. Such events reflect KyokushinRyu's ongoing commitment to promoting discipline, resilience, leadership, and positive values beyond the confines of the dojo.
The organising team extends its sincere gratitude to Shihan Rabindranath Seebrun and Shihan Rajesh Dooboree for their trust and continued guidance. Special thanks to Sensei Yashna Seeboruth and Ajodha Filling Station (Notre Dame) for their sponsorship of the event.
